Workouts are not the appropriate term describing what I teach my clients. I prefer the term training. Yet, for the illustration purpose of this article, I’ll resort to using the term workouts.
For many of us, hitting the gym is not an option because of time constraints, lack of motivation, or a combination of both, if the pandemic has taught us that home workouts can be effective hitting the gym. Exercising at home provides privacy and convenience for those seeking a fitness experience. It removes the hassle of traveling to and from the gym. Crowded gyms and waiting for equipment availability are some downsides. You can tailor your workout routine to fit your lifestyle, schedule, and goals. Home workouts are an ideal way to jumpstart your fitness journey, saving time and money on gym memberships and opening the possibility of attaining affordable equipment.
On that note, exercises at home don’t require fancy equipment or machines. Resistance cables and TRX will suffice. Calisthenics exercises or yoga are enough to help you stay fit and healthy.
Benefits of Going to the Gym
Access to professional equipment and trainers can enhance your fitness journey. The gym environment also provides an atmosphere of camaraderie, making it more enjoyable than exercising alone at home. Finding like-minded individuals to motivate and inspire you to continue your fitness journey has pros and cons. However, group classes are a great way to stay motivated.
A gym membership may be a better option for those who want to take exercise seriously. The gym setting develops healthy habits, increases socialization, and provides a sense of accountability. With a gym membership, you can monitor your fitness progress and hire a trainer to give you the extra push you need. As outlined above, most people overestimate the value of gym memberships, but the above points demonstrate that they are worthwhile investments.
Both home and gym workouts have pros and cons. It is ultimately up to you to choose based on your circumstances, goals, and preferences. A home workout is an excellent option if you are starting your fitness journey and are trying to stay fit. Nevertheless, if you want to challenge yourself, going to the gym does have additional benefits. Considering the pros and cons of each option will help you decide which is best.
The decision ultimately comes down to you. A neutral solution is to have both options and divide your fitness time between home and the gym.
